ARTIST'S STATEMENT

CHARLES R. CROSSLEY, SR.

 

For four decades it has been one integral process where my development began with observation, researching the many art forms within many cultures. My research gave me the opportunity and exposure to meet many local , national , and international artists, of yesterday and today.

My work expresses the freedom of expression through a mixed media process .

Through the myth of reality and abstraction, I believe that art is the basic discipline of all societies and gives one a full understanding of culture and historical insight of the potential resources for humanity and the development of our global community.

I realize that all cultures value the arts, and that it is not a passing moment of external elements or techniques, but a flowing matrix of spirit of joy, sorrow, pain, and fulfillment through the paths of visualization and participation.

My main objective as an artist is to seek the truth through inspiration from the past and present and capturing life in its many visual forms in a cultural experience.

Many of my subjects express this in a contemporary form.

Because art gives inspiration to the present language of today through the chaos of all the centuries since time. My art expresses many forms to capture our frustration, fear, values and hope for this century. Being an artist means more than talent; it means an insight of nature, humanity, and the cosmos.

Art does not remain static, for the world is constantly changing, and new forms are being established.

The essence of my artistic spirit is deeply implanted in the seat of my soul, as it was in primitive man.
